Curcumin, from Curcuma Longa, is the principal curcuminoid of turmeric – which is, in turn, probably the most extensively documented of all phytonutrients.
Turmeric and curcumin have a wide range of curative benefits to the human body with its antibacterial, antifungal, antispasmodic, antidiabetic and antifertility properties. Since time immemorial, curcumin has been used as a nutritional complement. Further studies have shown evidence of the spice protecting against hyperlipidemia, obesity, metabolic syndrome, depression and IBD. These benefits have made curcumin the subject of wide investigations for medicinal foods as well as drug development for diseases like blood & colon cancer, cystic fibrosis, inflammatory bowel disease, psoriasis and infectious diseases.
Curcumin in itself is water insoluble, leading to poor dissolution and hence poor bioavailability. Herbochem’s water-soluble curcumidoids contain the highest assay and bioavailability in the medical industry.
